L-Ascorbic Acid is a water-soluble antioxidant and a natural component of healthy skin. It helps to neutralize free radicals before getting too far past the surface of the skin. The skin derives the most benefit from a product formulated with a concentration of 10-20% and with a pH less than 3.5.
Tetrahexyldecyl Ascorbate (THD) is a highly stable oil-soluble form of Vitamin C that penetrates further into the skin. It is an analog form of L-Ascorbic acid that is converted to L-Ascorbic Acid within the skin. Since THD is oil soluble in nature, it neutralizes the types of free radicals that damage the skin's lipid matrix such as ceramides and cholesterol.
